Bill Thompson III, Co Publisher and editor of the magazine “Bird Watchers Digest,” will be the next guest on BirdCallsRadio, coming up from 1 to 2 p.m. this Sunday October 28th, on 1490 WGCH or “Worldwide Listen Live

His book “The Young Birder’s Guide to Birds of North America” (2012, Houghton Mifflin Company), fits right in with BirdCallsRadio’s mission to get young people interested in and involved with nature. The book also won the silver medal in the Environmental Issues category of the 2012 Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards!

A prolific writer of birds and nature, he also wrote “Bird Watching for Dummies” and several other books. He also spreads the word about birding through his blog — Bill of the Birds — and a podcast entitled “This Birding Life.”

His contributions to birding and nature have not gone unnoticed. In 2008, he was awarded a Service Citizen Award from the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service for his contributions in making the National Wildlife Refuge system more bird and birder-friendly.

He is also, among other things, “a dad, a field trip leader, an ecotourism consultant, a guitar player, a regular speaker/performer on the birding festival circuit, a gentleman farmer, and a fungi to be around,” according to his blog site. He has a North American life list of somewhere between 673 and 675 birds, but he has also traveled extensively to see birds.

His wife, Julie Zickefoose, is a former guest on BirdCallsRadio.

Be sure to tune in this Sunday. Thanks for your support of BirdCallsRadio.
