Betty Petersen next guest on BirdCallsRadio
Betty Petersen will be the next guest on BirdCallsRadio coming up this Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. on 1490 WGCH in southwestern Connecticut and nearby Westchester County, N.Y., and worldwide at “Listen Live” at www.birdcallsradio.com.
Betty is the director of the Birders’ Exchange program for the American Birding Association.
The Birders’ Exchange program collects donated new and used equipment and distributes it to ABA colleagues working to conserve birds and their habitats throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Betty has traveled extensively in the Neotropics, and along the way has distributed equipment donations for Birders’ Exchange. She has plenty of fascinating stories to tell about the people who receive the donated materials and the conservation work they do.
Betty, the wife of previous BirdCallsRadio guest Wayne Petersen, is also the president of the esteemed Nuttall Ornithological Club. She is a birding tour leader and facilitator as well.
She also initiated and coordinated the translation into Spanish in 2006 of “A Neotropical Companion, An Introduction to the Animals, Plants and Ecosystems of the New World Tropics”, by John Kricher (Princeton Press, 1997). She facilitated the donation and distribution of more than 13,000 copies to conservationists, educators, universities, schools, libraries, and eco-lodges in more than 30 countries throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Among the awards she has won is the World Environment Day 2006 “Ideas that Change the World” for Birders’ Exchange.
It will also be fun to talk with Betty about her world birding travels to destinations such as Trinidad and Tabago, Tanzania, Kenya, Antarctica and Iceland.
Be sure to tune in this Sunday and thanks for you support of BirdCallsRadio.
