Bird Calls Radio Bird of the Day for Saturday, Aug. 6
The Bird Calls Radio Bird of the Day for Saturday, Aug. 6, is the white-throated sprarrow. That makes back-to-back sparrows for the Bird Calls Radio Bird of the Day!
The white-throated sparrow is my favorite sparrow. They break the mold of the LBJ by being somewhat colorful, at least for a sparrow. White yellow stripes above the eyes, a white throat and other white markings, it’s a handsome bird.
They visit us in large numbers in the fall and they remain with us all winter. A winter storm wouldn’t be the same without white-throated sparrows visiting our feeders in droves once the snow settles. They are often seen with juncos in the winter.
The above pictured bird was eating weed seeds in my backyard.
Be sure to check out Bird Calls every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. on WSTC/WNLK AM1400/1350 (in S. CT and nearby NY) or www.wstcwnlk.com from anywhere in the world (where there’s Internet access, that is.) Thanks for checking in.
