The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection released the results of its Midwinter Waterfowl Survey today (Friday, Jan. 13) and the results were mixed, but mostly down from last year.

Overall the numbers were lower. Here’s a quick excerpt from the release: “The total number of ducks observed during the survey – 15,893 – was well lower than the 22,926 counted in 2011”

Of all the fowl species notes, only brant and Canada geese posted gains from last year. No canvasback were spotted on the survey. Officials did note that conditions were poor when the survey was conducted.
