Darien Land Trust talk last Sunday
This past Sunday I did a talk at the Darien Land Trust’s annual meeting at Wee Burn Country Club. It was a great turnout and I thank everyone for attending to learn about the important work that land trusts do. I was also approved as a new board member for the Darien Land Trust and I look forward to working with the long-time and new board members to further the cause of the organization.
The talk centered on the importance of varied habitats for birds. Darien has great habitats for birds: marshes, Long Island Sound shoreline, woods, fields, and backyards. With all these habitats a birdwatcher can see upwards of 250 to 300 birds a year in Darien alone. It wouldn’t be easy, of course, but that’s about the number of birds that nest or pass through Darien. Without organizations such as the Land Trust, much of this habitat would be developed and gone forever as bird habitat.
The talk featured more than 60 photos of birds and other wildlife I’ve taken over the years. The above photo is the introductory slide of the presentation. If you attended the event, thanks; if you missed it, I’ll catch you at the next one.
