Here's hoping for a snowy weekend

Northern flicker by Chris Bosak

Most people are probably not hoping for a snowy weekend, but one is predicted for much of New England. Of course, it was supposed to snow last night and we awoke to a brilliant sunny sky and green ground.

I, for one, am hoping for at least a little snow. Many birdwatchers, I’m sure, are with me. Other than the freak October storm, we haven’t seen snow on the ground all winter — at least here in southern Connecticut. Snow usually means more activity around the birdfeeders. I’ve hardly had any birds at all at my feeders this winter, so maybe a little snow will provide the impetus. Of course, the lack of birds at the feeders likely means they are finding natural sources, but selfishly, I’d like to see at least a few at my feeders this weekend.

If we are snowed in — or even if we’re not _ be sure to check out Bird Calls this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on 1490 WGCH or “listen live” above. Twan Leenders, a conservation biologist with Connecticut Audubon, will be the guest. He is also a reptile and amphibian expert and we’ll discuss what our snakes and turtles are doing now in the winter. Also, we’ll talk about the venonous snakes in New England.

As always, thanks for supporting Bird Calls Radio.
