Mark Obmascik next guest on Bird Calls radio
Mark Obmascik, the author of “The Big Year,” will be the next guest on Bird Calls radio this Saturday at 3 p.m.
“The Big Year,” the movie, opens today (Friday, Oct. 14) in theaters everywhere. With a cast headed by Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson — and with lots of birds — the movie is much anticipated by birdwatchers. A Hollywood movie about birdwatching, who would have thought? Obmascik made it happen, although he probably won’t take credit for it.
“The Big Year,” the book, follows three men with very different backgrounds, but one similar goal, as they perform a Big Year, a yearly quest to see as many birds as possible in North America. It’s a great book and I can’t wait to hear what Mark has to say about it.
Obmascik, a journalist and former reporter for the Denver Post, also wrote Halfway to Heaven: My White-knuckled — and Knuckleheaded — Quest for the Rocky Mountain High, about his quest to climb a mountain. He lives in Colorado with his wife and three sons.
