Pete Seeger's environmental education sloop Clearwater docked in Norwalk
Here’s a story I did for The Hour regarding Pete Seeger’s environmental education sloop Clearwater. Interesting boat with an interesting story. Thanks to Norwalk’s Susan Guerrero for the news tip.
…
NORWALK – Clearwater, a historic environmental education sailboat, is spending a few days in Norwalk as it gets patched up for next season.
The 106-foot-long sloop was built in the 1960s by folk singer Pete Seeger as he despaired over the condition of the Hudson River. According to the website www.clearwater.org, Seeger wanted to “build a boat to save the river.” It is a replica of the sloops of the 18th and 19th centuries.
