It’s a treat to see this distinctive subspecies of the Savannah Sparrow. The Ipswich Sparrow breeds on Sable Island, NS, and winters along the sand beaches of the Atlantic Coast. Here, two birds take shelter out of the wind, among bent American Beachgrass stems. The Beachgrass provides food for the sparrows and mitigates dune erosion.
