Bird Calls Radio's Bird of the Day for Friday, July 29

A little out of season, but the palm warbler is the Bird Calls Radio Bird of the Day for Friday, July 29. Happy Friday, everyone.

The palm warbler is a welcomed little bird for birdwatchers as they are one of the first warblers to show up in the spring (along with the pine warbler). After a long winter, New England birdwatchers are itching for some warbler sightings in April. Alas, along come the pines and palms to herald another warbler season.

Palm warblers have a habit of pumping their tails when perching. Not many warblers do that, so it’s a good field mark in identifying them. A handsome little bird, the palm warbler is today’s Bird of the Day.

Be sure to check out Bird Calls every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. on WSTC/WNLK AM1400/1350 (in S. CT and nearby NY) or www.wstcwnlk.com from anywhere in the world (where there’s Internet access, that is.) Thanks for checking in.
