Bird Calls Radio's Bird of the Day for Sunday, July 24

The eastern phoebe is Bird Calls Radio’s Bird of the Day for Sunday, July 24. It may not look like much — with its relatively small size and overall dull coloration — but the eastern phoebe is a fun bird to watch.

The phoebe is one of the first songbirds to return to New England in the spring, which lifts our spirits after another long winter. They also have a habit of constantly bobbing their tails, often as they are perched over water waiting to “fly catch” their next meal.

Phoebes, like other birds such as chickadees and whip-poor-wills, sing their name: “fee-bee, fee-beee” with the second “beee” trailing off.

Be sure to check out Bird Calls every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. on WSTC/WNLK AM1400/1350 (in S. CT and nearby NY) or www.wstcwnlk.com from anywhere in the world (where there’s Internet access, that is.) Thanks for checking in.
