Eric Powers next guest on BirdCallsRadio

Eric Powers, biologist

Biologist Eric Powers will be the next guest on BirdCallsRadio, coming up this Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. on 1490 WGCH and listen live. Powers is the founder of Your Connection to Nature (YC2N) and spearheads many conservation projects, including one involving Northern Bobwhites to stem the out-of-control tick problem.

A native of Colorado, Powers lives on Long Island, N.Y., and works with schools on nature projects, such as his bobwhite reintroduction project whereby teachers and students incubate bobwhite eggs and Eric’s gang broods them to adulthood. They are then released into parks on Long Island. The Northern Bobwhites, a native species that is in decline throughout most of its range, then eat ticks in the park. Powers has noticed a decline in the tick population at the parks where the bobwhites have been released.

He has other projects involving Box Turtles, owls, otters, kestrels and pond frogs. Powers is a nature educator for both children and adults. Powers also goes by nicknames such as Makalea, Eliki and Ranger Eric.

Powers also airs nature webisodes through iTunes with the intent of education children and adults about nature.

In his own words, the organization he founded in 2005, YC2N, is :

“YOUR CONNECTION TO NATURE, inc. (YC2N) is an Environmental Education company whose passion is to save the Earth one person at a time, one species at a time, and one backyard at a time.  We are a fully digital company and do not rely on printed materials.  We practice safe animal-handling procedures, and are fully insured.  Our field-trips and Eco-Tours are safe, educational, and yet still fun. We practice eco-friendly behaviors such as recycling, reusing, and reducing waste, and give back to the community through our numerous Conservation Projects, both locally and globally.  Investing in us is investing in humanity.  We are an equal opportunity employer and do not judge nor discriminate against anyone because we value diversity and bio-diversity.”

Remember this Sunday is Father’s Day, so send me your best stories about your father and nature. Did your father get you into nature? Is there a funny story involving the outdoors with your father? Be funny, be sentimental, be interesting. Just send me your stories involving your dad and nature.

Thanks for your support of BirdCallsRadio.
