Joe Schnierlein

Joe Schnierlein

Schnierlein is a former science teacher at Brien McMahon High School before retiring in 2003. Schnierlein now coordinates activities such as horseshoe crab tagging for the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk as part of a broader research project by Sacred Heart University.

Schnierlein will discuss topics such as the health of Long Island Sound, the growing osprey population on Long Island Sound, horseshoe crabs and the tagging project, what the Aquarium digs up from the bottom of the Sound during its explorations, the winter seal population in New England and the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s mission of protecting the Sound. Schnierlein was a popular teacher in high school and is now sharing his knowledge through his work at the Aquarium. We look forward to picking his brain about various topics related to birds, the environment and Long Island Sound.

Schnierlein is also the Manager of Interns at the Aquarium and is adept at getting young people interested in nature, conservation, science and the environment. He has also taught marine biology at Norwalk Community College. He is also currently on the Advisory Committee of the Norwalk River Watershed Initiative.

Again, we look forward to having Joe on the show. There will definitely be something to learn for everyone. Thanks for your support of BirdCallsRadio.
