Kim Todd next guest on BirdCallsRadio

Kim Todd, author of “Sparrow,” will be the next guest on BirdCallsRadio, coming up this Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. on 1490 WGCH and “Listen Live” above.

“Sparrow” explores the history, biology and ecological impact of the House Sparrow, that ubiquitous bird that may be found nearly everywhere on the planet. As the back of the book states, House Sparrows are both beloved and reviled.

Todd is also the author of “Tinkering with Eden, A Natural History of Exotics in America,” which takes a look at species such as the European Starling, Rock Pigeon, and Gypsy Moth.

“Sparrow” is part of the Animal series of books highlighting specific wildlife species by Reaktion Books. Other species highlighted in the series include moose, wolf, leech, cockroach, falcon and crow. There are about 60 titles in all.

Kim Todd’s articles and essays have appeared in publications such as Sierra Magazine and California Wild. She has taught environmental and nature writing at the University of Montana, the University of California at Santa Cruz extension, and the Environmental Writers Institute. She currently teaches at Penn State, The Behrend College in Erie, Penn.

She has an M.F.A. in creative nonfiction and an M.S. in environmental studies, both from the University of Montana, and B.A. in English from Yale.

Todd will be speaking at the Harvard Museum of Natural History on Aug. 4; and at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island in Bristol, R.I., on Aug. 5.
