The Louisiana Waterthrush is another of the expected early spring Warblers to return to the Northeast. It favors fast-moving woodland streams for breeding, and once the ice melts the stream ecosystem comes to life to provide food ahead of the general forest leaf-out. It forages on the ground near streams but will call from forest perches. It often departs early to begin migration to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America in late July.
