One of those terrific fall days

White-breasted nuthatch by Chris Bosak

Sunday was one of those rare fall days when the yard is alive with birds. Plus, it was a weekend day, so I didn’t miss it toiling at work.

It started with a kinglet that flew into a small tree about three feet away from me. I love it when kinglets appear out of nowhere and fly right up to you.

Then the white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice and black-capped chickadees shared the feeder, as well as a downy woodpecker. A red-bellied woodpecker called from a distance. Yellow-rumped warblers were everywhere. Goldfinches were plentiful, as were blue jays. A brown creeper climbed up a locust tree. Cardinal nervously flew low in the woods. On top of that, chipmunks ran all over the place. That was about 9 a.m. At noon when I check again, only the nuthatches remained. Sometimes it’s all about timing.

As always, thanks for checking in with Bird Calls Radio. Be sure to check out Bird Calls every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. on WSTC/WNLK AM1400/1350 (in S. CT and nearby NY) or https://birdcallsradio.com/listen-live/ from anywhere in the world (where there’s Internet access, that is.)
